Every visit starts with an 8 point health check which takes into account your dog’s ears, eyes, teeth/mouth, skin/coat, feet/nails, anal glands and gait analysis. Feedback may be given to improving your dog’s well-being or a vet visit may be suggested.
We like to finish on a positive note here at Plucky Pooch so your dog’s groom will complete with a pleasant experience such as play, cuddles or stroll around the block to show off the new hairstyle.

Yes, we are very happy to groom cats and rabbits. We usually recommend that we groom cats and rabbits in their homes to avoid any unwanted stress.
If your dog is food motivated, it is useful if you can bring a selection of low, medium and high-value treats. If he/she is motivated by certain toys then please bring these with you.
The first appointment may take up to 2.5 hours to allow for additional time to settle your dog and acclimatise him to the grooming process. Subsequent appointments will normally take circa 2 hours depending on the condition of the coat.
It is important to get puppies used to the grooming process, smells and sounds as soon as possible once they have received their vaccinations. We suggest to new owners to bring them in for a cuddle, treat and play session so they can meet us and we can pair the various pieces of salon equipment with some tasty treats.
At around 4-5 months of age, we advise booking your puppy in for a bath, brush and blow-dry. We will offer you some tips on brushing to ensure your puppies coat stays as matt free as possible, especially around 8-10 months of age when your puppies coat starts to change to an adult coat. This is when owners sometimes find it difficult to keep on top of the knots and mats.
Depending on the breed type, we suggest that owners get their dogs used to being handled, touched around the face (particularly relevant to a poodle), feet and tail area. Just gently touching your puppies feet can help when it comes to nail clipping.

Yes, we do. Our hand strip is not a show strip. We like to call it hand stripping with kindness using stripping knives and specific other tools but not finger potting which is usually done by the breeders.

We are very happy should you wish to stay with your dog while he is being groomed. It can be hard for owners to leave their dog with a stranger. Sometimes though the owner's presence can make the dog more stressed. In this type of circumstance, we may recommend that you wait in your car or come back once the groom is complete.

We offer a flea shampoo bath that is kind to the skin and coat. The shampoo temporarily sends the fleas to sleep providing just enough time for the fleas and eggs to be removed. We may suggest you speak to your vet about a preventative treatment to avoid a re-infestation and also provide information on sanitising your home/dogs bedding.
We are very happy to remove any ticks your dog may have. The season for ticks is approximately April to July although this will vary dependent on the weather. We may suggest you speak to your vet about a preventative to avoid a re-infestation. While every care is taken to remove a tick, sometimes a tick head is buried deep and may require a visit to the vet to avoid infection.
We believe that keeping your bitch clean around the vulva area during her season is paramount to avoid any nasty bacteria and also any unwanted mats forming. More time may be required to groom your bitch during this period as they can become more stressed, sensitive and hot thereby requiring more breaks than usual during the grooming process.
We check the anal glands during the health check at the start of the grooming process. If they require expressing we are very happy to do an external expression of the anal glands as part of the usual grooming plan. We may suggest your dog be taken to the vet if the glands appear infected or require an internal express by a qualified veterinary.

The culdesac where the salon is located is tiny. We, therefore, ask all customers when either dropping off or collecting to park outside of the culdesac to avoid any unwanted attention from the neighbours. Thank you in advance.
